If you want to transfer a domain name from one registrar company to another, you’ll have to pass through several safety steps. One of them is getting a unique EPP authentication code from the present registrar – as long as you are the domain registrant, since the code is emailed to the domain owner’s mailbox and no one else can see it. You will have to provide this code to the new registrar company, or else they will not be able to begin the domain name transfer procedure. The EPP authorization codes are case-sensitive and may contain numbers or special symbols such as dots or commas, which can be easily miswritten, so make sure you copy/paste the right code. As an additional safety measure, the transfer authorization code for a domain name may be changed on a regular basis. Certain registrars call this code a domain secret, a domain password or an Auth key as well.
